How Often Should I Bathe My French Bulldog Puppy?
So you’ve just adopted an adorable French Bulldog Puppy and you’re wondering how often you need to wash and clean your French Bulldog. We’ll you’ve come to the right place!
In this blog post I will cover the following topics to help keep your French Bulldog clean:
- How often to bathe your French Bulldog
- How to wash your French Bulldog
- Cleaning your French Bulldog’s face
1. How often to bathe your French Bulldog
As your puppy grows, he’ll often be running around, exploring the park and rolling around in the mud. You don’t have to wash your dog every time he goes out to the park (unless he is covered in mud from head to toe) although it is a good idea, to start to get your puppy into a bathing routine.
The answer: You should aim to wash your pup twice a month.
2. How to wash your French Bulldog
Start by wetting your Frenchie’s back with luke-warm water using a shower nozzle (do not use extremely hot or cold water as your puppy will not enjoy this). Lather a small amount of puppy friendly shampoo on your pup’s neck and slowly massage, whilst ensuring that they are comfortable. Slowly rub the lather from the neck to the back of their ears, down their back and each leg, making sure that you get in between their paws. Repeat this until you have wash each body part of your French Bulldog.
Now that you have shampooed your puppy, it is time to rinse him with your shower head. Ensure that the water pressure is not too strong, and once again start at the neck and slowly rinse the formulated shampoo out of your puppy’s fur.
You will need to squeeze the solution from your puppy’s ears to drain the water. Allow your fur baby to shake off the shampoo anytime that they please. This will make them feel more comfortable when taking a bath.
Now that you have finished washing your baby, wrap a towel around your puppy and slowly dry them. Yay, you have just given your pooch a friendly bath. They will now look, smell and feel cleaner.
3. Cleaning your French Bulldog’s face
French Bulldogs are prone to yeast and bacterial infections. This is why it is extremely important to keep on top of your puppy’s cleanliness.
First, go and grab a baby wipe or a slightly damp cloth. You will need to gently rub around your puppy’s face to make sure that they are not in pain when you are wiping down their face. You want to make sure to clean any build ups of gunk, particularly between the folds around your puppy’s eyes, cheeks, nose and mouth.
After you have finished cleaning your puppies face, it is now time to inspect their face for blemishes, dry and scaly skin, acne and dry spots. Pay careful attention to the folds underneath their eyes, under their chins and armpits. If you find any dry spots, use pet-friendly moisturising lotion or if you find anything that looks excessively sore or odd, consult your vet immediately.
