How Often Should I Take My French Bulldog To The Vet?

Dental and health checks are not only essential for humans, but for French Bulldogs as well. Being prone to many health issues it is important that you schedule regular vet checkups to stay healthy and fit, which usually include:

  • Vaccinations,
  • Dental and Health Checkups,
  • Diet,
  • Grooming and
  • Injuries or ailments.

But a lot of people often ask how often should I take my French Bulldog to the vet?

Birth to 12 months

When you first bring your French bulldog home, you will need to get vaccinations once every three to four weeks until he is 16 weeks old. During this time, your vet will discuss their physical development and dietary issues.

The vet will thoroughly examine your Frenchie to ensure that he is growing up healthy and strong. It is a great chance to talk to a professional on a regular basis to understand how to best keep your French bulldog fit and health. Talk to your vet about future vaccinations that will be needed. They will be able to provide you with a timeline for subsequent visits as your Frenchie matures.

After 16 weeks, your French bulldog pup will start heartworm and flea and tick prevention medication.

Around 6 months of age (if they haven’t already been) is when they will usually be neutered.

Between 12months to 7 years old

During this stage, we recommend bi-annual check-ups or at least annually. The veterinarian will give your French Bulldog a head to toe physical, which involves a blood sample to check for heartworms, and may recommend other tests based on any observations. It is also useful to bring a sample of your Frenchie’s stool, which will be used to check for intestinal parasites.

Senior Dogs (Older than 7 years)

Unfortunately, it is at this age, when French Bulldog starts to have more health problems. We recommend a biannual checkup at a minimum. Your French bulldog will go through a thorough physical exam as well as take blood and urine samples, to test for not only for worms but for kidney, liver, thyroid hormone levels and more.

Pro Tip:

Take your Frenchie to the Vet straight away if any issues arise. If your French bulldog seems unwell or has an accident. Don’t risk putting your French bulldog through more pain than they need to.
