How To Clean French Bulldog Ears

With their big bat ears, squishy little face and adorable wrinkles, cleaning your furbaby require a bit more attention than just their bi-monthly bubble baths!

So let's talk about ear hygiene.

Toby's ears are definitely great big dust catchers that require cleaning on a weekly basis. French Bulldog can have ear problems such as a build-up of bacteria, yeast, etc. When I bathe Toby I take extreme care not to get the water and shampoo down his ear canal as wet ears can be a good breeding ground for bacteria causing infection. If your 

If you find any dirt or wax looking grime in their ears it should be cleaned to reduce the likelihood of your Frenchie developing an ear/yeast infection. Your vet and/or breeder will have a good ear cleansing solution (I use Opti-Otic skin and ear cleanser) that will dissolve the dirt and wax deep inside the ear.

To clean your Frenchie's ears follow the below steps:

1. Start by squirting the cleansing solution into the ear (I quickly squeeze the bottle for just a second) then massage the cartilage in the front of the ear for around 1 minute.
   
   Massaging the solution will help it penetrate deeper into the ear canal and dislodge the debris.If you're massaging the ear correctly you will hear a squelching sound.
   
   
2. After the massage, allow your Frenchie to shake the solution with the dissolved debris out of the ear until he or she is satisfied.
   
   
3.  Dry the ear canal with a dry soft cloth until it is dry.

I never use a cotton bud with Toby as I'm too afraid that it can compact wax down into the ear and damage the lining. I normally clean Toby's ears once a week, however,  it's always important to examine your Frenchie's ears if you find them constantly shaking their head and/or scratching their ear, this may be a symptom of an ear infection.
